What Causes Chronic Stress?

Various factors can essentially cause an individual to experience chronic stress. However, chronic stress is known to be the body’s response to never-ending pressure.

For some individuals, chronic stress emerges as a result of increasing workloads. Others experience chronic stress that arises from trauma, conflict, mental health issues and family expectations.

Although it can be challenging to determine what has caused you to experience chronic stress, as you undergo chronic stress treatment, you will begin to comprehend the factors that have played a prominent role in the development of your chronic stress.

Signs and Symptoms Of Chronic Stress

Due to its very nature, if you are struggling with chronic stress, you may have come to experience a wealth of physical and psychological symptoms.

Although the symptoms experienced may have been bearable initially, as chronic stress amplifies, the symptoms encountered will likely become intolerable.  For this very reason, carrying out simple tasks may seem painstaking, and you may have started to isolate yourself from others.

If your life has become crippled by chronic stress, determining whether you experience any of the symptoms listed below will help you decipher if you require chronic stress treatment.

Physical Symptoms Associated With Chronic Stress

  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Digestive problems
  • Changes in your appetite
  • Frequently experiencing illnesses such as the common cold
  • Feeling run down

Psychological Symptoms Associated With Chronic Stress

  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Reduced self-esteem
  • Paranoia
  • Lack of concentration
  • Erratic thoughts

If you experience any of the symptoms noted above and frequently feel overwhelmed with stress, securing addiction and chronic stress treatment will help you as you look to turn your life around.

Chronic Stress Treatment is Available

Unbeknown to many, chronic stress treatment is readily available for individuals to take advantage of.  However, due to limited information and understanding of chronic stress treatment, it is often deferred.

Unfortunately, when chronic stress impairs your life, treatment is necessary.  Without treatment, chronic stress is challenging to control and can lead to drug or alcohol addiction developing.

Sadly, as noted above, chronic stress can also damage your physical and psychological health.  This means that when left untreated, chronic stress could see you develop numerous health complications.

To ensure that you feel confident in seeking chronic stress treatment, we have outlined a few of the various treatments we provide as part of our dual diagnosis treatment at our rehab centre.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Implemented to help individuals struggling with chronic stress understand and navigate the emotions and feelings they encounter, cognitive behavioural therapy is a form of psychological therapy carried out in both one-to-one and group therapy settings.

Initiated by our psychologists, cognitive behavioural therapy will encourage you to become more mindful and adopt positive behaviours.

At Nova Recovery, cognitive behavioural therapy has proven to be highly successful as a form of chronic stress treatment.

Well-Being Therapy

In addition to incorporating cognitive behavioural therapy into addiction and chronic stress treatment, we also provide various well-being therapies, such as yoga and meditation, when chronic stress treatment is sought.

Aftercare

Should you seek chronic stress treatment at our rehab, we will provide you with 12-months of free aftercare support as and when you complete your treatment programme.

Although you may not think that you need access to aftercare support, we would encourage you to take advantage of the support available to you upon leaving our rehab as it will aid you as you look to secure a long-term recovery.

Our aftercare usually consists of weekly support groups at our facility.  However, we also offer support via a dedicated dialectic behavioural therapy line and regular Zoom calls.

Personalised Chronic Stress Treatment Programmes

At Nova Recovery Scotland, our dual diagnosis addiction and chronic stress treatment programmes are personalised to the needs of each individual that attends our rehab for treatment.

To ensure that we can create a treatment programme that maximises your potential of making a full recovery, as you enter our rehab, we will need to carry out a medical examination.

This examination will see our medical teams ask you many questions about your chronic stress and substance abuse. Although this may seem daunting, answering the questions as honestly as possible will ensure that you secure the treatment you need.

Our team will also review your physical and psychological health.

Our Chronic Stress Treatment is Provided on an Inpatient Basis

Unlike other treatment providers, at Nova Recovery, our chronic stress treatment is provided on an inpatient basis. As a result, should you attend our rehab for addiction and chronic stress treatment, you will be required to move into our rehab as you progress through treatment.
